The First Day of Holy Week

On this day, our Lord returned to Jerusalem from Bethany. On the way, he cursed the fig tree because it did not bear fruit. When he entered the city, he went into the temple, and cleansed its courts, reprimanding those who were using it for commercial purposes. He declared, “My father’s house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations, but you have made it a hide-out for robbers.” In the evening Jesus went out of the city.
