Being Subject to Authorities

13 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities; for there is no authority except from God, and those authorities that exist have been instituted by God.

⁹ But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people,^[a] in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

¹⁸ so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints,
